Gastroscopy is an examination that allows direct visualization of the upper part of the digestive tract (esophagus, stomach and duodenum), using a thin flexible tube.
In addition to being a diagnostic method, gastroscopy has an important therapeutic aspect.
Through the endoscope channel, we can pass a wide variety of instruments, which allow to act on various lesions: dilation of stenotic (narrow) areas, removal of polyps, extraction of foreign bodies, treatment of hemorrhage sources, etc.
This makes it possible to avoid or reduce the need for transfusions and the use of surgery in a large number of patients.

¿Qué sucede después de la exploración?
Finalizada la exploración, debe esperar unos minutos antes de intentar comer o beber líquido. Una vez que el efecto haya pasado, usted puede seguir su alimentación habitual.
El resultado de la gastroscopia se conoce una vez finalizada la misma. Si se han tomado biopsias y/o citología, se deberá esperar varios días para tener el diagnóstico definitivo.
